Family law matters typically involve
the well-being of children and other highly personal issues
that people would rather remain private, and not made public
in court. Mediation is a voluntary and confidential
alternative to protracted litigation, which can save parties
the time, anxiety, cost and uncertainty of a court-imposed
resolution.
The mediator is a neutral third-party
attorney who works with the parties to settle their
differences, and guide them through the intricacies of the
legal process. The ultimate goal of mediation is to
cooperatively fashion an agreement which works best for the
parties and their family without the intrusion of the court
and invasiveness of litigation.
Sessions can involve just the parties
or they can include the parties along with their counsel, as
best fits the situation.
